New Music - The Killers, The Fireman, Neil Young

Didn’t do a New Music post last week. My bad! I’ve included The Killers and new for this week: The Fireman and Neil Young.

The Killers - Day & Age - It’s super 8o’s synthesizer-tastic and I love it!  DJs on my local alt/rock radio station were complaining that the Killers were becoming increasingly pop and they weren’t liking it.  Some others might not be liking it either–their opening sales numbers this week were weak. But I got no complaints. I can’t help but fall in love with the band’s big, romantic airy choruses. The single “Spaceman” the danceable “Joy Ride” and the epic “A Dustland Fairytale”.  Amazon iTunes

Neil Young - Sugar Mountain - Live at Canterbury House 1968 - Recorded 40 years ago, this live acoustic recording of Neil Young on the eve of releasing his first solo album, doesn’t sound the least bit dated.  Indeed, Young is one of those rare artists who manages to remain timeless and relevant even as the musical landscape around him changes.  There’s a CD/DVD version, and the iTunes version offers bonus tracks. Neil’s ethereal vocals and superb guitar playing are in full force on this disc.  Favorites: The nostalgic (and previously released) “Sugar Mountain”, the haunting “The Last Trip to Tulsa” and a slowed-up “Mr. Soul”.   Amazon iTunes

The Fireman - Electric Arguments -The Fireman are Paul McCartney and producer, Youth, who was in the post-punk band Killing Joke and has produced U2, The Verve and other acts.  Paul McCartney is really at his best when he’s got a collaborator, and no doubt about it, this partnership has produced one of McCartney’s best albums in ages.  Recorded quickly, and without restraints, the record is a virtual sonic feast. The lead song, “Nothing Too Much Just Out of Site” is an angry vent at his ex-wife, Heather Mills. Paul is pissed! David Archuleta - Holiday of Hope Tree Lighting
Ceremony - VIDEO

David Archuleta performed at the Holiday of Hope Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles last night.  The event benefited One Heartland.

David performed for the crowd, and helped Santa light the Christmas tree.  He also performed at a special VIP reception before the tree lighting.

Videos are turning up, and the best seems to be from Jwipe.  After the Jump, David performs a lovely “O Holy Night” at the VIP reception plus an interview with Maximo TV.

After winding up his Holiday of Hope performances, David made his way over to Anaheim for the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball. He and Michael Johns were in the audience rocking out to Rihanna, Chris Brown, Katy Perry and others.
