elimination night: random edition[04/11/07]

Tonight’s results show stars Jennifer Lopez. Guest starring is Jennifer Lopez’s ass. Paula seems to have reverted back into her wacko-self. And, what’s this? A group song? Thank God, I’ve been going through freaking withdrawal. They sing Bailamos by Enrique Iglesias. Be careful when Sanjaya is whispering to [...]

American Idol 2007 Episode 29 - Top 8 Results
Show Review

Tonight's results show is going to be excrutiating. Yup. That's right. It's an hour long.

Jennifer LopezJennifer Lopez will be performing tonight along with the usual stuff, including another Ford commercial.

First up though, lets take a quick recap of who sang what:

Melinda Doolittle sang Dean Martin - Dino - The Essential Dean Martin - SwaySway
Lakisha Jones sang Gloria Estefan - Gloria Estefan: Greatest Hits - CongaConga
Chris Richardson
sang Santana & Rob Thomas - Supernatural - SmoothSmooth
Haley Scarnato
sang Gloria Estefan - Gloria Estefan: Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 - Turn the Beat AroundTurn the Beat Around
Phil Stacey
sang Santana & The Product G&B - Supernatural - Maria MariaMaria Maria
Jordin Sparks
sang Gloria Estefan - Gloria Estefan: Greatest Hits - Rhythm Is Gonna Get YouRhythm Is Gonna Get You
Blake Lewis sang Marc Anthony - Marc Anthony - I Need to KnowI Need to Know
Sanjaya Malakar sang Diana Krall - The Look of Love - Besame MuchoBésame Mucho

Taking a look at this weeks polls, what do the numbers indicate about tonight's elimination show.

It should come as no surprize to anyone that Sanjaya is still at the top of the "Who does everyone want to go home" poll on 40% but that number has dropped considerably as Haley Scarnato gets 26% of the vote and Phil Stacey finds himself in third place with 19%. Everyone else has less than 5% of the vote each.

In the "Who is everyone's favourite Idol" poll this week, for the first time since the Top 24, Melinda Doolittle has lost her top spot which is now claimed by Blake Lewis who take 39%. Melinda now comes in at second place on 17% with Jordin Sparks pretty close behind on 15%.

Now, who are the bottom three as predicted by the polls?

Haley Scarnato takes third lowest spot with 5% of the vote. Second lowest this week is Lakisha Jones who finally manages a much deserved bottom three berth with 5%. At the bottom of the poll this week, once again, is Phil Stacey with 3%. It should be an interesting result this week because our poll results and dial idols results are different once again.

When it comes to the DialIdol results, third lowest place belongs to Chris Richardson (8.2%). Second lowest belongs to Jordin Sparks (6.76%) while Lakisha Jones (6.45%) languishes at the bottom. Interestingly, Phil Stacey again is near the top coming in third highest behind Melinda Doolittle.

So who is going home tonight? Stick around and find out but it's looking like it's going to be Phil Stacey if the Idolblog.com polls can get it right once again. The results are just around the corner.

What was tonight's medley? Enrique Iglesias - Enrique - BailamosBailamos by none other than latin sensation Enrique IglesiasEnrique

Going home:
Haley Scarnato

Bottom Three:
Phil Stacey

Chris Richardson

Safe:
Lakisha Jones
Jordin Sparks
Melinda doolittle
Blake Lewis
Sanjaya Malakar

Yet to be decided:

Celine Dion on American Idol

So Ryan said tonight that Celine Dion is going to be on American Idol -- is that for the American Idol Gives Back Charity event, or is she going to be a guest mentor/coach? It wasn't clear to me -- but wow! That's going to be cool.

I loved the bit they did with Tony Bennett auditioning -- The judges were adamant that he was horrible and he didn't make it through. Just a joke -- but it made me wonder -- I bet there are a ton of singers who are in the industry that wouldn't make it through that process. That would be a reality show idea -- make established performers go through. I bet no one would want to and it might actually ruin their careers. Hmm. Interesting thought though.

J Lo on American Idol

I loved hearing the coaching tips that J Lo gave to the American Idol contestants. She is so beautiful and cute. I love that when she talks, she seems so real. Jennifer Lopez embodies passion -- so her performances always make an impact. I hope some of the American Idol performers will take to heart that connection and try to really feel the emotions of the music. It makes a huge difference!

They announced last night that more performers are joining the American Idol Gives Back campaign including Rascal Flatts, Il Divo, Earth Wind and Fire, and the LA Philharmonic. It seems like they have really good groups and I bet even more big names will come on board. As soon as you get a few big names, more jump at the chance and don't want to be left out. I'll be excited to hear who they announce next.

Finally, It's Happened -- Haley Leaves American
Idol

I wrote a bunch of notes about the American Idol performances -- but then ran out of time to blog about everything. But I would have predicted Haley leaving tonight -- and Phil being in the bottom 3. But I wasn't sure about the other bottom performer. I actually thought Blake might be there, because he has lost some of his appeal for me -- and because Chris is so likeable.

I loved the advice J.Lo gave to the American Idol contestants. And I actually thought Sanjaya did a good job -- his best performance up to this point. I was hoping Haley would go home -- it is just hard to watch someone who is trying to sell herself so much, and doesn't seem to know who she is, but rather uses her body. Even Simon mentioned that she was using the tactic of "wearing the least amount of clothes possible." That is very sad.

I agreed with Simon on most of the American Idol performances last night -- and felt like no one really stood out and "wowed" me. Of course Melinda, LaKisha and Jordin did well -- but I didn't love any of the performances. Chris Richardson keeps growing on me, but his voice isn't my favorite. Although I do think he'll get a record deal and do very well. Blake has hit a deadend for me -- he just doesn't seem to connect to the music, but always gives a good performance. I wish he would have a bit more emotion and some more facial expressions.

I still predict Melinda to win. LaKisha and Jordin in the top 3 and perhaps Blake as the 4th (although I'd rather it was Chris). I think Phil will go home next week, and then possibly Sanjaya if we're lucky. But it will probably be Chris or Blake.

Anyway, I think they are all doing well -- and I wish for them the best.
